Silverware drawer back getting chipped up by knive tips how to stop it
I have very nice wood cabinets BUT THE BACK OF THE KNIVE DRAWER has started to get chipped by the tip of the knives......been trying to figure out what to put on the back of the drawer to keep this from getting worse....I have some kind of plastic Styrofoam like packing but do not know what to glue it on with. Its more like plastic then Styrofoam. I do not know where I got it and do not know if I have any more. Guess I'll have to check out the trash box bin to see if I can find more...Any other guesses out there....Thanks 5-16-20 STAY SAFE....

Sandy: you may just want to consider good, ol' duct tape! (maybe even two layers)
I wonder if you could use Adhesive Cabinet Bumpers on the back of it. They have a sticky side, so you'd stick them on and then they'd be padded on the side that would bump against the wall.
You could purchase long plastic bins that fit into the drawer for the knives to fit into. That is what I have my long sharp knives in that are in a drawer. They can't move forward and backward as the drawer is opened and shut numerous times so the back of the drawer won't get scratched. It can be something as specific as what I have pictured that is made for knives or just a long rectangular inexpensive plastic drawer bin that is probably less than 2 or 3 dollars. Another idea would be just a cardboard box cut down to fit.
Good suggestion from Gk, my thought was to put a durable piece of plastic in the back of the drawer.
You could cut a piece of plastic or rubber to fit the back of the drawer and tack that in place. That would provide some cushion when knives went into the drawer.
you could buy a cutlery tray to put into the drawer so they don't touch the drawer just the tray-

this is for knives in a drawer
If you cut that styrofoam to the exact measurements of your drawer you should be fine to not glue it - it should just stay. If not - double sided carpet tape would do the job.
Hello. I have the same problem in my cookie sheet pans cabinet. I would suggest getting some adhesive fun foam and sticking it there it will give padding and protection.
The fun foam comes with adhesive and without adhesive and different thicknesses.
Hi Sandy. Have you considered using a knife block instead of housing them in the drawer? You could also put a magnetic strip on the wall. Knives are metal and would stay in place by the magnet. Just thinking outside the box. Good luck Sandy. Stay well.
You might want to contain the sharp knives in a small drawer organizer like you find at the Dollar Tree, OR do as I did, I took small boxes and cut them to fit the drawer and covered them with contact paper. They look real nice. My knives do not stab my drawer now and the rest is more organized this way
The knives are the worst ones, the other cutlery does the same thing and I have dividers between the knives, forks, spoons. I do not want to put another organizer too much other stuff and no more room. I really appreciate you giving me info. thanks. 5-17-20 BE SAFE...
Rather than glue, try a temporary adhesive like poster putty. Just to see if it works. If that works and you want it to be permanent, try gorilla 2 sided tape.
what is poster putty where do you get it?
