How to add class to outside houseboat deck?

One level up the deck is large enough to have a great sitting area. Need to make it look inviting to hang out. Any ideas would be great. Photo's even better.

Add a photo of your houseboat deck for some specific and helpful answers! My first thought is to add some lights, a colorful outdoor rug, some great chairs and maybe even a few plants!

Hi Barb. Comfy seating, tables, pillows, and plants will dress that big deck up. For more drama, place up-lights under a couple tall potted plants. Let the light shine up casting shadows and drama. You can buy up lights at your local home improvement store for under $20. Good luck Barb. Hope all is well with you.

A outdoor rug with seating and small tables would be inviting. You could use deck boxes that lift up for storage so double use.

Consider the deck as a room and decorate as such using weatherproof items. If you need shade, consider a sail shade rather than a standard (and too small) umbrella. Have a color scheme, just like indoors. It may look "classier" if you don't use the typical nautical colors and decor. I love the idea of a couple of large potted trees with uplights as mentioned above!

You'll have a lot more leeway if you don't go to sea often as you won't have to remove or fasten everything down. There are some excellent waterproofing agents now that may allow you to use regular upholstery fabric too.

Think about seating with storage beneath. A game table that doubles for dining. Waterproof speakers. Various task and mood lighting. How about an outdoor shower? Please post us a photo and your after result. Have fun! 😎

Begin with the surface. I would put down astroturf and then top it with some attractive indoor outdoor rugs. Add comfortable furniture, chairs or a sectional, side tables to set a drink on.

What items or materials are appropriate to use when decorating the outside of a houseboat depend a great deal on what type of climate the houseboat lives in. Do you get lots of sunshine and high heat where you are, or is the weather cooler with more rain?

Please post a picture of your houseboat so that we can see what you have to work with.
