Flip Any Boring Plant Pot Into a Charming Vintage Crock Cutie!

I'm going to give my most recent trip to the thrift store credit for this project. Because there on the shelf was this cheap plastic container that resembled a vintage crock shape.

Right away I thought... "I'd bet I could make that look a whole lot cuter..." So taking a whoppin' $1 risk, I brought it home with me.

Gathering up other random plain plant pots suddenly became a focus... would my little vintage brainstorm work on neary any pot I grabbed? I decided to give it a whirl...

Teaming up a newly designed vintage-vibed stencil along with a cool texturizing powder you mix with paint, one by one, each boring or ugly pot transformed into something MUCH more unique and quaint...

And the good news is, this works with virtually any pot you may have on hand!

Here's how I did it...

Before

The first step was to mix paint with Fresco, which is a powder that adds texture to paint.

Wait until you see what this does...

Adding colour and texture to pots

Fresco takes on the colour of paint you choose. Aren't these neutrals pretty?!

Now let's make them really sing!

Vintage Crock Numbers stencil

After the paint was dry, this charming Vintage Crock Numbers stencil was used to add crock-styled numbers to each pot to give them that vintage crock vibe!

Adding numbers and details

Each pot was stenciled with a bordered number in a tone that teamed up well with the textured pot colour.

And check out that luscious texture... swoon! Imagine all the sins that could cover! And it truly covers well.

Extra details such as dry brushing and speckling were also added to really amp up that vintage charm!

Special effects

This look was created by adding two tones of Fresco, then getting the pot to chip. The 4 finished it off to perfection!

(original blog post link below shares how to get this effect)

And the spectacular results!

And here's the vintage crock result! Aren't they the cutest plant pots in the land?!

Each pot oozes charm and personality through texture, colour and design!

And while the painted pots sure are pretty...

... here's a wonderful example of how charming unpainted pots can become!

A fav saying I like to quote often is, "Want old? Start on old!"

Can you guess which $1 pot started it all?

It's the one on the far right. And I didn't even paint it!

Best $1 I've ever spent, I say...

Think you'll try revamping a few outdated plant pots after seeing how charming they can become?
