How disinfect wooden drawer?
UGHH - A mouse set up housekeeping and had babies in the bottom drawer of my buffet which I use(d) as a linen drawer!!
I took the drawer outside, dumping the babies and nest into a lidded trashcan. (Btw, they were about 7 of them, barely an inch long and pink. I did catch the parents and now have a mice-proof home.)
I trashed most of the linens, washing and re-washing family heirlooms.
But, please, how do I disinfect/sanitize the wooden drawer?
Else I will not be able to look at it, let alone put something else inside.
THANK YOU!

Sadly, I have had to deal with something like this. Scrubbing it with disinfectant in every nook and cranny was my start. I sprayed disinfectant on every part of it. Then I dried it out in the sun. You could also lightly sand the inside of the drawer and disinfect it and dry it again. Then, I sealed the inside of the drawer with a clear sealer and I could use it again. Of course, I went overboard and did every nook and cranny of the entire piece, but, I was able to use it again. You could also use a white stain sealer like Kilz. Good luck and stay safe!
Scrubbing the drawer with a bleach solution should disinfect it.
Hi this is Peggy. So sorry you had a really bad time with the mice. Please be sure to fill every hole or tiny crack around your house and they can't get in. Hope this helps. You can also spray lightly with lysol . Good luck How do you disinfect a wood dresser?

I would scrub it with a bucket of warm water and a quarter-cup of vinegar and a squirt of dish soap. Do it outside and let it dry in the sun.
So glad you got rid of them.
We have lived through a mice infestation, ugh. There were 7 of them and no babies.
For your drawer, take it outside and wash with warm soapy water, I used Blue Dawn dish soap and then rinsed with clear water. Let it air dry to the point of being dry. Do not leave it wet very long, the water can warp it. Also, too much sun will do the same.
Hello,
Scrub it out with water & disinfectant. Leave to thoroughly dry before lining with paper and replacing your linen..............
Scrub it with soap and water, and dry it with a cloth when you are finished. I also spray mine with perfume from time to time. Keeps them smelling nice.
Clean it well. Put it out in the sun on a dry day. And then maybe paint over the inside of the drawer to seal it and give you peace of mind.
Hi! I had a similar problem and washed the inside of the drawer with bleach.
USE ODOBAN a deodorizer and disinfect.
Also, if you want to redo the dresser because of all this, check out my Hometalk post.
I don't know if you are dealing with a lot of odor too but this post is good when it comes to deodorizing and disinfecting due to animals.

WOW - THANK YOU all SO MUCH !
All the GREAT solutions - so many and so fast - floored me.
I almost waited a couple of days to check for answers.
This was my first post on here, although I have gotten their emails and used the site for serveral years.
HomeTalk is THE PLACE for home advice.
Definitely going to tell my friends and relatives who don't already know.
Again, many, many Thanks!
PS - Between the DISGUST and worry about warping or otherwise ruining the wood, I was not very hopeful. I really wanted to keep my beloved mom's buffet, especially since I have the entire matching dining room set - including china cabinet, table with expansion leaf and 6 chairs.
I would use soap and water and lysol.
OdoBan will disinfect and add a pleasant smell.
Hydrogen peroxide will disinfect as well.
I'd use white vinegar
Can’t believe so many people suggested vinegar. It’s much too mild of a disinfectant to use after all the mice urine and feces that remained after you got rid of them. Use bleach dilluted with water. Ugh! I’d NEVER use vinegar…too weak!
