Hi Glenn, here are some great ideas. Hope one of them help... https://www.thespruce.com/diy-bird-baths-4172975
We're making one right now. We're placing a galvanized pan on top of an old milk can and putting some pretty stones in the pan to anchor it in place. I saw the idea on Pinterest.
An old lamp always makes a nice base. Add a pretty bowl to the top and you're all set!

I have one now, and have been thinking about making one. Here are my thoughts so far:
I want to use a container or basin that is waterproof.
I want something easy to clean.
I want something different, but, not "crazy".
I'm thinking of adding a solar pump to create a water feature that both the birds and I can enjoy.
Right now I am thinking of a galvanized, round or oval.
An alternative is a large planter, but it would have to contain the water and not be too deep.
For the solar pump idea, I need to place it where it gets several hours of sun.
There are hundreds of ideas out there, and I hope that you share your project when you do it! Good luck and stay safe!
Use a shallow basin and a solar water fountain! Our neighbors use a tree stump and a square cement patio paver as their stand with the bowl on top...it looks very beautiful!
