I spray painted mine a bright turquoise! Love it! I do have to repaint it every year but it's still in fairly good shape considering the age!

If your going to leave it natural wood then get a scrub brush and dish soap and water and scrub the wood down realy good let it fry totaly then varnish or paint as you like

You could power wash it and either stain it or paint it.
You could paint it or stencil it with chalk paint. You might want to sand it first.
Give it a cleaning with some deck cleaner, see if that helps, then go from there. If it's not sealed, you can stain it or you can also paint it.
