Hi Linda, I think the best way to get a good smelling home is for it to be clean and aired out with fresh air from the great outdoors.
Open the window and let the fresh air in. Here's a link with more ideas:

Often unpleasant smells in a home come from improperly dried laundry. Do not let wet or partly dried laundry sit in the washing machine or dryer or sit out in a basket without being thoroughly dried.
Do not hang wet towels in any bathroom that does not have an efficient exhaust fan or adequate circulating air flow.
Do not let wet dish cloths sit around on the kitchen counter. Replace with fresh often, wash frequently in hot water, and dry thoroughly.

I am very sensitive to smells. The obvious is to air out the home. But lets dig a little deeper.
I found that essential oil machines are wonderful. You can pick out your favorite essential oil to use so it is sort of customized to you.
For a quick pick me up I add 1/4 cup of fabric softener to a spray bottle and top it off with water. Just spray this on soft furniture like a sofa to remove stale smells. This is very inexpensive and you can use this every day. Please don't spray your pets with this and don't consume this.
Figuring out what odors are present is the first step. If causes of damp are removed, good air circulation usually takes care of the rest. A trash can is usually in the kitchen, and needs regular cleaning. I dry mine outside on a sunny day to freshen it up. Check your drains for odors and remove any hair caught in a drain, as it gets disgusting pretty quickly. Soft fabric items like upholstery, carpet, curtains, etc. absorb odors, especially if you have pets or smoking indoors. If you have a filter in your air conditioner or heating system, change it on a schedule. If you burn candles, you will often find the soot residue from it in your filter. Dust your walls and ceilings with a Swiffer. Easy to use and easy to change the covers. Work your way from the ceiling, down. That way you won't get dust on surfaces you have already cleaned. Don't forget filters on range hoods and other vents. Once everything is clean, from top to bottom it will smell that way. Run your vent when cooking, too. Hope that helps! Good luck and stay safe!
plugins and oil burners are a good option.
As many have stated, fresh air does wonders, weather permitting. Next would be to look for the source of the odor(s). If it something that can be removed or cleaned, take care of that. It is also important to have air circulating, if the air is still, pockets of odors can form. If there is a pet in the house, it might need bathing.
Don't smoke inside house. Run exhaust fans when cooking - hopefully vented out side.
Hello can you further describe what is bothering you, is it a mold or mildew situation or an area of concern specifically in the room like a bathroom in the basement. More information might help us give you the most successful answer to your question.
Your house may have hidden mold. Clean everything including your washer, fridge, under fridge drip pan, pull it away from wall, same with the oven. Disinfect everything. I personally use wax melts for a nice scent. Like others have said, fresh air really helps. I also use white vinegar in a dish after I fry anything. It removes the smell. Leave it out 3 or 4 hours. Oh, also check your disposal and dishwasher for odir and trapped food particles.
Hello Linda,
Steam clean everything in sight. Use Shake & Vac on your carpets and Rugs. Use Febreze to freshen up your soft furnishings. Add a Bamboo Taper Sweet smelling oil room freshener.
Essential oils!
Odoban is a great disinfectant and odor eliminator. It comes in a couple of scents to choose from. Clean and wipe down surfaces with it. Then you can spritz in the air to keep the scent.
