We had one previously and liked it very much. The benches were built in on 2 sides with a table and you could pull chairs up to the other 2 sides. Very similar to a restaurant booth.
It will look something like this. https://images.app.goo.gl/xDenhtMMSKoQFo8z5
You need to try it out, before commiting to it. If the benches are fixed, it can be very uncomfortable. Even worse are the styles with fixed high backs at straight angles.
A number of people find them too confining.
I had them in another house. I hated them. Hard to clean around, and table had to be pulled out all the time. I did make the benches a storage area, and that was ok. But I also had to make new cushions every few years.
I like the look, but, didn't like them in reality. If they are built in, you don't have the flexibility of chairs. Plus, without good cushions, they are uncomfortable. The one thing I did like was the built in storage!
We had a breakfast nook growing up. We had a large family (6 kids, 2 parents) The kids all sat on the benches and one parent each on the other two sides. We liked it at first but learned that it wasn't good for such a big family. Even to this very day, my family congregates in the kitchen.
Hello Peggy,
Works well, I had a large mirror at the end, so it looks much larger. It allows folk to sit and talk to the chef without getting in the way of preparation. My benches were hollow and fitted, with storage inside which means you don't have to keep moving the benches to clean in between and can even store Paint and shoes & Boots etc. when not in use. Hope that helps.
yes I love it!!
