Repaint kitch cabinets?
My cabinets need a new coat of paint. Do I need to sand before painting? I'm not changing the color.

I Elaine yes I would still sand them a bit but, most importantly, get them REALLY clean before proceeding at all: https://weekendcraft.com/diy/how-to-clean-your-kitchen-cabinets-with-tsp/
After that a little light sanding and then the same color of paint should be just fine. Because its the same paint and color you won't need a primer unless the previous paint is pealing etc. After that I would definitely put a couple of coats of a polycrylic sealant over them to protect them.
I would, even just a very light sanding. Here are some Hometalk projects to check out about painting cabinets

I would give them a light sand with fine sand paper first then wipe them off then paint the paint will stick better
Make sure you use the same type of paint. Oil based or water based. Latex will peel if use over oil.
I would clean them, first. You will be amazed at the buildup you get on kitchen cabinets. Lightly sand, before painting, for better adhesion. Good luck and stay safe!
You can clean with TSP or scuff with steel wool then wipe down with denature alcohol to prep the surface.

Hi, Since in the kitchen, they will need a good washing to remove any grease. A light sand would be a good idea and re paint with a good quality semi-gloss so they can be cleaned easy. Good luck
Clean them with TSP substitute powder mixed with water in a spray bottle, do a light sand then repaint.
