How to stop creaking stairs?
I have had the stairs completely replaced from underneath. New treads put in and ceiling re dry-walled. This was good for a few months but now the stairs creak again. I don't want to call these carpenters back again, since it was not fixed correct the first time. Any suggestions please.....

Hi! Stairs usually squeak due to the parts rubbing together. I've noticed mine seem more noticeable depending on the weather. Even our new house, with central air and great insulation, plus a rebuilt staircase is squeaking this summer. Wood swells with increased humidity, and I think that's our issue at the moment. If it really bothers you, hope this helps:

Hi there,
Timber will move and dry out which causes the creaking. You could try using Talc between any cracks, but otherwise think of it as a built in "Burglar Alarm". I have the same problem (No Access to underside of stairs).
