Cover RV recliner sections?
I’m in my RV until our house is built. The 4-section “leather” sofa in our slide lasted about 6 months until the “leather all started sloughing off in pieces leaving a foam cover that never stops shedding even though I’ve put on a slipcover which is forever “slipping”. The furniture itself is actually comfortable and each of the 4 sections reclines, so I hate to toss them.
I need suggestions for some permanent cover that adheres to the surface AND a fabric upholstery. The 2 end sections have an outer “arm@ and the 2 middle sections do not. HELP!

How old is the RV? Did you contact the dealer?
If your RV is fairly new, I would contact the dealer to see if they can do anything to help you out. If that isn't an option then here is some info to help out.

Since it is fairly new, contact the dealer. It may still be under warranty or they may have the supplies or patterns to help you recover the seats yourself.
Hi Cammie. You could try your hand at upholstery. It would be easier to work with if you could take the recliner apart. If that's not possible, you could upholster it right in place, but it would make the job a lot harder. You will need spray adhesive, foam, batting, and fabric.
You can buy these things at your local fabric store. You will also need a staple gun. Begin by cutting the foam so that it will fit the section you are working with. Spray the spray adhesive on one side of the foam. Then lay it down on top of the seat. Next cut the batting big enough to cover the foam with a couple inches extra on all sides. Spray the adhesive on one side of the batting and lay it down on the foam. Remove any wrinkles in the batting. Next comes the fabric. Cut it a size that will cover the batting and foam with about 6 inches extra on all sides. Lay it down and work out any wrinkles. Pull the fabric down and under the seat and put one staple in the center on all four sides. After that you can finish by stapling the fabric down all the way around the perimeter. Cut off everything past the staples. Good luck Cammie. I wish you well.
Before you do anything check your contract and see if it is under warranty.
Yes, contact your dealer, take pictures and submit them. the upholstery should last longer than 6 months, or see if you can get them to have a repairman come out and evaluate. Once they have a professional look at what is going on, they should take steps to repair or replace the unit.
If you are out of warranty, you might have to take matters into your own hands and reupholster.
Also, take a look at what the BBB has to say about them. And please write your honest review. Be careful to not slander, just the facts!
Hello, I would suggest contacting the store you purchased the furniture at and or the manufacturer. Some companies like Costco even warranty products longer than the actual manufacturer would as we saw in the case of our patio furniture.
Folks, please read the question fully before replying.
The problem here is with a sectional couch in a slide-out of an RV.
Cammie,
Posting a picture of your couch showing what you have to work with would be helpful.
If it can be seen how the unit it affixed to the base, or how the individual sections of the couch are connected to each other, it may be easier to give suggestions on how covers could be made to stay attached to the cushions.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I’ll try to post a picture. We bought the RV In good condition but used so nothing under warranty on the couch. It looked perfect six months ago but the leather is definitely not real it flakes off like a bad paint job . The foam underneath is actually in good condition.
I like Cindy’s suggestion. Her idea sounds like a great way to DIY upholster the couch. I have a massage recliner chair with the same problem. I might try her method to fix it.
Does the sofa have removable cushions? If so, you can make fabric envelope cushion covers for them. This is a tutorial on how to make envelope cushion covers: https://momhomeguide.com/easy-envelope-pillow-covers-for-spring/#
Would you be able to cut upholstery fabric and glue hem the edges and then either Velcro it around the perimeter or consider glueing it all down with an adhesive like E6000?
I would not go with another vinyl, as it will break down the same way, eventually.
Hello,
Call in an Upholsterer or Supplier of Stretch Covers such as PLUMBS! They will give you a price to do the job and then leave you with the quote.
They have leather scraps that you can buy at hobby Lobby. You can cover the tears with the patches and use leather glue to hold them in place. Good luck!
