If you want to paint it just prime it with Kilz primer then paint you color. Seal with Helmsman Spar urethane. The primer will seal the concrete and the urethane will protect the paint finish

I would paint it with masonry paint in the color of your choice. It shouldn't need sealing.

There are sealers for concrete driveways. Something like that made for exterior application should work nicely
You do not need to prime concrete. Just pain the color you want. HD and Lowes sell concrete sealant in the flooring sections. I actually just sprayed my concrete pedestal with Laquer and it has held up for the last 4 years.
Hi Sandy, has nobody in these stores offered to sell you concrete paint? That is all you really need, hope this helps!
So sorry to hear that Sandy. You can paint the concrete pedestal without applying a sealer first, but a sealer will help the paint last longer. Concrete is very porous, which means trapped moisture in the concrete could rise and ruin the paint. That being said, I think that would give the pedestal some character.
I have used Thompson Water Seal on concrete. Spray or brush it on. Do it in a well ventilated area if possible. I actually sprayed the basement walls in a house I owned
Dry Lock makes a masonary sealer. I believe Walmart carries it.

Here is a Rustoleum product that says it will seal concrete. Convenient in a spray can from Amazon.
