Hello. In the past I’ve done this by putting masking tape over each light bulb and spray painting to get a metallic light cord. Using plastic friendly spray paints may be important to get a good adhesion .
Hi Gayle, you might poke the lights into styrofoam, leaving the cord part exposed to spray paint.
I’d be careful about painting the cords, I’m not sure that’s a good idea. You might contact the manufacturer or buy the cords in the color you want. You would use painters tape to tape off all the lights.
Just use painters tape over the lights and then spray paint the cord.

Hello Gayle,
Why not cover them with electrical tape instead?
why not cover them with the color of duct tape you want? ...it comes in all kinds of colors now!
Hi Gayle, you can mask the lights off, are you painting the part they are hanging on as well? In that case you just mask what u don't want painted and spray them.
Tape off the bulbs with blue painters tape. Spray paint the cord
I would think it would be a pain to paint the cord. They make inexpensive lights in different cord colors like green or white. Although if you want to paint it another color, I would tape off each bulb area and use spray paint in the color of choice.
Use painters tape to cover them. It will probably take as long to tape them as it will to remove them and put them back.
