Upcycled Scottish Tree Decoration
Every year I love to make some upcycled mini trees for my mantle. Last year I made some gorgeous Scandinavian Felt trees (see them here) which I ended up keeping up all year long. This year I decided to embrace my Scottish roots and made these tartan and tweed mini trees.
I used scraps of tartan and tweed for this craft but you can just as easily use an old plaid shirt. I think tartan, tweed and plaid go really well with denim so I used some denim belt loops for this craft too.
I used a large Christmas tree cookie cutter for my tree shape. If you don't have one I have drawn around mine and you can download this template from my blog to use (link at the end).
Cut out two identical shapes for each tree.
Stitch the two pieces of fabric together very close to the edge. Leave a hole at the bottom for stuffing. Stuff the tree loosely with some fiber fill (I use old pillows).
Add a twig for a trunk.
Then glue some denim belt loops around a wooden cotton reel to use as a base.
I enjoyed making these trees so much that I made my own mini forest. I still have some scraps of plaid, tweed and tartan left I will use them to make these gorgeous colorful feather s.

Really cute and up
my alley as I have scraps from my husband’ s family tartan leftover from our daughter’s very Scottish wedding. I think I will use cinnamon sticks for the trunks and string them for a garland.
