Do This To Your Faux Garland and Tip to Keep Your Real Ones Fresh
I've got tons of boxes of Christmas garland. But either the lights aren't working on them anymore, or they've lost pieces of greenery. I wasn't ready to throw them away, since faux garland can get really pricey. I knew that I could come with a way to reuse them. So, I bought some fresh pine bunches and gave my old garland a new "fresh" look.
Lay your garland flat across the table. Have all your fresh pine (or anything fresh greenery you like). Cut off all the tags on the bunches of pine. Choose the branches that look fuller and set them aside to use as your fillers (the pieces that will be added into your faux garland), and use the other smaller pieces to fill in other areas that might need a bit more filler.
You can mix different types of greenery if you want a full and textured look. I wanted mine to be simple and minimal (and pine is my favourite).
Cut off a piece of jute yarn, enough to wrap around your faux garland and the fresh. Start at one of the faux garland and lay down a branch next to it. Figure out where it fills in nicely with the faux garland. You want to mix the fresh garland in between. Then tie it around.
You could use dark green pipe cleaners, or yarn too.
Take a floral water tubes ( mine were saved from flower arrangements I had) add about half with water. You only need half filled with water, because when you stick the branch it, it'll end up spilling out if it's full. Next, stick the branch into to cut tip of the water tube. Make sure the tube is not going to be facing upside down wherever you're going to be hanging the garland. The water in the tube will keep it fresh, as long as it's not dripping. The water does absorb quickly, since it's not alot of water, so keep your eye on it. My garland sits above a fireplace, so I fill the tube every two or three days.
Next, is a quick video to show you how I put this together. And a peek at what it looks like done. I'll show you some more pictures after the video.
Hope you enjoyed this easy garland update. And don't forget to save those water tubes 😉 for your next garland update.

Love flower water tubes. My favorite is cut flowers from yard. Full three or four with water and cuttings bundle up with rubber band and attach to gift with ribbons (hiding tubes). Beats any bow and costs no more time than a bow but so welcome and fresh. Everyone who receives feels like they got two gifts!
