the funky odor only lasts for a brief moment, but is definetly there.

Maybe try cleaning the the spout to get off any build up
You may have something trapped in your pipes. Clean the drain thoroughly. You can use a cup of baking soda and vinegar, cover 5 minutes and pour boiling water down.
You might have bacteria growing in your hot water heater, that could be a source of the odor.

Sometimes it can come from iron in your water and some harmless bacteria. You can check and clean the aerator on the faucet, or clean the hot water heater.

You may need a water softener. Sounds like you have sufur in your water.
Sometimes it's the drain that needs to be cleaned out and when the hot water first goes on and it hits the drain, the odor is released. Try dumping some vinegar down the drain and see if that helps.
Hi Marcia, it is likely just a dirty or partially clogged drain, Simply pour approximately 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by about 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar. Now cover the drain with a stopper or a plate and let the chemical reaction go to work, cleaning the inside of the drain, including the P-trap, and frothing up.
Hello. Is it only on your bathroom faucet? If other faucets are not affected the problem might be restricted to that single tub or sink faucet. Possibly mineral buildup there that might need to be addressed.
Hello Marcia,
Maybe try to clean the inside of your taps by using a bottle brush and disinfectant!
Hope that helps.
Hi Marcia, I would first unscrew the filter from the bottom of the sink faucet and clean that and faucet thoroughly. It could just be nasty build up over the years causing gunk.
It can be sewer gas. I have a toilet that is close to the sink and a shallow P-trap. When the toilet is flushed it creates a vacuum and pulls water out of the p-trap and gas is allowed to come up. Only happens when the water is turned on. Change the p -trap to a deeper one.
Sounds like you have sulfur in your water smells like farts you need a water filter eather for the faucets or whole house

You didn’t say what hot water heater you have. Some have an anode rod that may need to be replaced. They often cause nasty smells when they get worn out.
I live in an apartment building none of my neighbors seem to have this problem
You probably need to clean your hot water tank. Simply drain it fully. You should do this once a year for maintenance.
I’d reach out to the landlord first, see if they can resolve the issue before taking anything apart or doing anything that may result in accidental damage.
