You can definitely do this, there are lots of posts on Hometalk about it so try the search bar at the top left. Do know it's not the most durable solution, especially in a heavily trafficked space like a kitchen, so if you go that route, make sure you can undo it easily without causing much damage.

Although some folks have done this, the durability and longevity can not be determined. Also be aware that not all brands of contact paper are created equally, - in thickness, strength, and degree of adherence.
