SUPPLIES (GO TO OUR SITE FOR LINKS TO EVERYTHING)
-Granite Contact paper or other Paper of Choice.
- X-acto Knife
-Yard stick
-Vinyl Squeegee or something with a very smooth edge to press with. A credit card works!
-Scissors
-Rust-Oleum Polyurethane Water Based Gloss Finish Heavy Use (I link on my site to the best deal)
-Good quality paint brush or foam brush. If you’re doing a larger area you might use a foam roller.
Granite does not match so you will have seams but they are subtle. Just accept that. Decide ahead of time where you want them. This is best done in bathrooms.
This project mainly takes PATIENCE. I did mine, not counting the varnish, in 2 hours.
You will smooth out your paper, and then trim.
I chose to use waterproof caulk around my sink. Again, too many photos and details here to explain. Check out our site for all of them.
Previous owners had painted over the metal on the backplash. I painted it silver again before adding my granite wallpaper.
More trimming.
THE IMPORTANT STEP! The varnish that makes it last!
You can see the seams but they are not that noticeable if placed correctly. I chose to place mine at the back of my counter horizontally rather than vertically.
These types of edges can be very problematic due to they peel when leaned against. Another reason to use varnish if you want a long lasting vanish.
Its gorgeous. Close up and far away. Check out our site for more close up photos!
Grab our free quirky poem or reminder should you choose to not do the varnish or even if you do!

Comment: I've been doing this for decades in places I've lived. You'll have to go online if you're looking for innovation, however. What's available in stores is usually not very imaginative.

Yes, my 17 year tried it to their bathroom using contact paper from Dollar tree. She didn’t use varnish and after a year it looks new! I did it around the stove and refrigerator and the countertop near the stove.
