Hi! If it's safe to clean, a steam cleaning attachment on a rinse and vac does an excellent job. Resolve spray cleaner works great for pretreatment of stains. Good luck and stay safe!
Hi Gloria. I use Woolite Carpet and Upholstery cleaner for stains on my carpet. It comes with a brush built in the lid. I spray it on the stain and it foams up. I use the brush to scrub it until the stain disappears. This cleaner has worked very well for me and I don't see why it will do the same for you. Good luck Gloria.
Do you know what the fabric content of the upholstery is?
Also, is it dirty from general use over the years, or is it soiled from anything in particular?
Have you tried renting a carpet cleaner and using the attachements for furniture? Those carpet cleaners have worked miracles on my carpet, and I bet they'd do the same on upholstery!
It will really depend on your fabric. If it still has a tag on it anywhere it should have a code for cleaning. Otherwise you might try a steamer, we have one and use it on our sofas all the time, but they aren't linen or rayon, etc...
I use the upholstry tool on my carpet cleaner to do client's furniture using Zep cleaner in the water reservoir.
I have also used Dollar Tree carpet cleaner in the red spray bottle and the foam cleaner both from Awesome using a soft carpet brush and the big car cleaning sponge to remove foam and any excess cleaner.
If the covers come off the cushions, I put them in the washing machine and either hang the cushions to dry or dry them to just damp - they are easier to stretch and get back on the cushion while still damp.
Then I put a fan on the whole thing to dry fast, moving it around.
