Can I paint this vintage ceramic piece with chalk paint?
I love vintage ceramic pieces. I bought this piece at one of my favorite thrift stores last week for a whopping $2.00 because it was 50% off day. I brought it home and squirted full strength Dawn dish detergent on it, grabbed a plastic scrub brush and started cleaning off the grungy surface. It is currently covered with an ugly combination of gold, silver, and bronze. I don’t like this color finish so I want to paint it. Having never used chalk paint, I’m asking if I can put chalk paint on top of the ugly finish?

Yes you certainly can paint with chalk paint, but you will have to use a sealer of polyurethane. If you do, use water based poly, otherwise the piece will turn yellow.
I would go for Rustoleum or Krylon spray paint and this eliminates the top coat.
Hi,
Yes, Why not...?
Hello again,
You could also use Acrylic paint but as with Chalk paint you will need to seal it.
I would use enamel paint and then varnish it .. what a great project project to have
Yes you could chalk paint it
Very exciting. It looks like the perfect type of item for chopping. I think I would like to do some lamp bases basis myself. Chalk painting can be an awesome update.
Hello, you sure can, and chalk paint is the perfect choice, it covers all surfaces so nicely!
You're welcome!
