Old Desk Makeover
My son found this desk on the side of the road. He automatically thought of me when he seen it. I love old wood furniture makeover projects.
Can you believe that somebody would get rid of this gem on the side of the road? LOL
I actually bought a new circular sander by the company Bosch. It works like a gem. I also purchased a new triangle style sander to get into the smaller areas and corners.
I am no professional so I can’t tell you the exact terminology’s. Time to sand. 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour more.
It is looking really good and smooth. Use your face mask as you don’t want to breathe in sand particles.
I wanted to use a poly/ stain in antique white. This is what it turned out looking like. A flop!!
I had to let it dry overnight and then go outside the next day and sand this side again. Messy!! Would not recommend that product at all.
Now it is ready to wax. That was my next option to keep the wood look. I found mine at Walmart by the chalk paint. I also picked up a spreader in the paint department for $2. I did the styrofoam handle as they also have sponge handles. I thought ahead to the mess that might happen.
Oh my goodness this is going to look so good. Time to let the wax dry overnight.
I wanted a refresh on the knobs and handles. I went to Hobby Lobby and found these gems on clearance. Because I switched from handles to a knob on the bottom drawers. I made sure the knob base would cover the existing holes. Then I drilled a center hole put them in and perfect.
This is the end product. New hardware and ready for our new home that is being built.

I love that you did this with your find. Years ago I rescued a desk that my Mom had sprayed with Roxatone? (spelling) paint. I stripped it like a good re-finisher, it took a week of hard labor. But today, almost 50 years later it still looks good. So glad that you are showing us how to continue doing these jobs.

The desk looks awesome! Did you only use wax on the top and is that enough for a surface that will be used regularly? I’m new to refinishing and would worry the wax would wear off or not be enough of a protectant. Great save!
Thank you for not painting that beauty!You did a fantastic job,one you can always be very proud of.Am I wrong or is that wood pine?Some of the older knotty pine not only gets very hard(for a soft wood)but really retains it's beauty.
