How to get oil stain easily out of wood?
Help! I'm trying to learn all this "man stuff". I got a new pressure washer and was pouring new oil in it and spilled it on the porch. I wasn't in a hurry to get it up because I was about to pressure wash right? Wrong! It soaked into the wood. What's a simple way to get the stain out? I'm always 2 steps forward and 15 back. I'm trying so hard! Please help.

Oil spilled on any surface will stain, period. Always start blotting the second something happens. This will help.

Hi! I have had good luck blotting before cleaning. You don't want any extra to clean. Dawn dish detergent is my go to for oily spills. Don't hesitate to scrub it into the spill. Try not to smear it around. Blot it some more. Then try pressure washing. One method of blotting is to use a material like cornstarch or cat litter. Then sweep it up. Most things I have learned to clean have been because of messes I have made. Don't be so hard on yourself! You've got this!
Krud Cutter is a great degreaser. Spray it on liberally on the stain and start blotting with paper towels. Mineral spirits will work in the same way. Ammonia can react with tannins and chemicals in the wood so be careful. Especially if it's pressure treated, redwood, cedar. Some of the stain might remain so pressure washing should work.
You could try a good cleaner degreaser from the Automotive store and then use the pressure washer. I know Purple Power would be a good one.

Hello. Some household cleaners that you might have on hand are great degreasers. Dawn dish detergent is one and this spray easy off degreaser is another. Hope you get your situation resolved.
Oil Dry or kitty litter will "pull" oil out of the wood. Lay it down and let it do the work. Sweep up and re apply until it has pulled out most or all. Then clean with a degreaser, you can get some pretty good ones at the dollar tree. Also, blue dawn is another good great grease fighter.
In the future, put down a tarp whenever doing any kind of maintenance. If there are spills you can just pick up at the corners.
Glad to hear you are taking charge to learn how to do things. It gets better.
Thanks so much.
I want you all to know that I'm going TODAY to get EVERY product every one of you mentioned just for the future. Thank you all so much!
To make a cleaning solution, put on protective gloves and mix one scoop of a commercial powdered oxygenated bleach with 1 cup of warm water. Work a small amount of the mixture into the stain using a soft cloth. Then, scrub the wood gently with a soft-bristled brush, working in the same direction of the grain. Wipe the solution off of the wood with a soft, dry cloth and repeat the procedure until the stain is gone.
Thanks so much
