You could plant decorative grasses in front of it or perhaps a flowering bush. There is a small plastic vertical cover covering some kind of tall cable box on my neighbor’s property, right next to our yard. My neighbor has a clump of tall grasses in front of it.

    Hi Carol.,

You could either cover it with a large Stone slab and grass over it, r make a feature of it by putting something on top of it like a statue or Plant in a pot and or surround it with a flower bed.

    Flowerbed Centerpiece

Transform a well cap into a pedestal for a bird bath, statuary or other artistic garden element. Plant a bed of flowers all around it, using a variety of species to provide interest through the seasons. Low evergreen plants around the well cap will keep it concealed year-round and provide a green backdrop for the flowers. If the surface of the well is too small, sloped or unstable to support the centerpiece, build a wooden box with a lid around it.

    Rock Garden

Rocks, boulders and creeping plants make an intriguing centerpiece in the yard, obscuring the view of the well in the process. Bury about one-third of each boulder to make it look like a natural outcrop. Add soil in and around the boulders, along with smaller rocks in a random pattern. Plant succulents to creep around the stones, such as two-row stonecrop (Sedum spurium "Dragon's Blood"), which is hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 through 9.

    Well House

A traditional wooden well house adds rustic charm to the yard. This is a four-sided structure with a small roof, resembling a classic wishing well, but without the water. Design it to match the home, using the same materials, color and trim as the exterior walls of the house. Or, forego the traditional design and make it a statement in the landscape -- a miniature pagoda or tiny church, for example. A small wooden structure covered in lattice and planted with vines does the trick, as well.

    Things to Keep in Mind

Never plant trees around a well, as the roots can damage the well casing underground. In general, don't create anything that can't be removed or sacrificed if the well needs major repair. The well should be accessible at all times for routine maintenance checks. Also, remember that hiding a well doesn't have to involve costly or complicated plans -- some landscape supply centers sell fake boulders for this purpose and they take just a minute to set into place.
