How to Make a Gallery Wall (easy and Accurate Hanging)

I will always love a gallery wall. It is a great form to display art. I find it home-y as it adds warmth and personality to the wall (usually the living room wall). I started my gallery wall with 5 pictures, with the hope that it would look both complete and incomplete; giving me a sense of purpose to continue drawing. Unfortunately, I purchased standing frames instead of hanging. In this tutorial I will explain how I fixed it and hung it on the wall.

I learned that gallery wall looks best when mixing up sizes and orientation. I went online and bought beautiful frames, to discover they only have a leg to be placed on a shelf. First, I teared off the leg, and removed the hook that was attached to it.

Then, I marked the middle of the frame (including the frame itself). From the centre I marked 3 cm to each side.

I cut 6 cm long string, from my macrame rope that I have left from the hanger that I made. On top of the 3 cm marks I placed a generous amount of hot glue and placed the string on top and added some more glue on top.

Whilst the glue was still hot, I pressed it gently with a hammer to flatten it and create a smooth surface. The coldness of the hammer sealed the glue quickly and firmly.

This is how it looked like...

Then, it was time to hang the pictures on the wall. The first big frame was hung in the middle of the wall, this was easy to mark and hang. In order for the rest of the pictures to be aligned with each other, I created a simple jig using one of the frame's leg. I inserted a screw to the end of the leg so it was showing from both sides.

I hung a picture on the screw and moved it across the wall using the jig until I was happy with the position.

Then, I held the jig in place and removed the frame. I marked the desired position for the nail with a light strike of the hummer on top of the screw.

I repeated these steps with all the frames, creating an equal space between them.
