Good question.
Depending on what your lampshade is made of, it may turn white or a degree of yellow. You could start with a test patch on your lampshade to see if it will work, then rinse that area well so it will not damage the fabric. 1 part bleach to 5 parts water. Keep a close watch on your lampshade for results as bleach can damage the fabric. Rinse well.
What type of material is the lampshade made out of?
Depending on the texture and composition, the bleach may eat through it completely, and/or the wet saturation may result in additional staining.
Hello. Is your lampshade a stretched fabric or plastic coated paper. Some more information or a photograph might be helpful. I have spray-painted both types of lampshades but find the thinner paper shades to be the most effective and pleasing with a spray paint application.
You could give it a try, Dont think it will turn completely white. Put some bleach in a spray bottle.. Spray on , let sit for a few min, then rinse off...

It really depends on the lampshade material as others have said. Some, like linen or rayon, will be stained and destroyed that way. You might be better off painting it or getting a sheet of styrene that's made for lampshades and covering it.
Not likely that the bleach will totally bleach the shade to white. You could paint it white!
It won’t work. The result will be blotchy and discolored. Instead try painting it
Here is a video that shows how to make a lampshade white with bleach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izbjMCgTLPg
I would use full strength bleach and test in on a small part of the fabric and see what happens. If that spot turns white, then you can bet the rest of it will and you can paint the rest of it in bleach! Then leave it out in the sun for a few hours (maybe a couple of days) to get rid of that bleach smell.
You could also use lemon juice, spray and set out in the sun to dry.
Be careful using too strong a bleach solution - it might rot out the fabric. There are fabric paints you could look into.
Hello,
Better to paint it with Chalk Paint!
If you paint it, very little light will come through.
Hello, you will do better to just paint it with white chalk paint, less dangerous , less messy and nice even results.
