How to make cabinets taller without taking them down??
Am now embarking on a DIY kitchen update. Painted cabinets from dark to white without buying new ones. Had a wall removed and flooring put in. Was a galley kitchen and remaining wall is loadbearing. Want cabinets to appear taller. How can I DIY this? Wanted an island to give more space in small area, but that other wall is too challenging.
Got exorbitant estimates for removal. I DIY the wall between kitchen and DR but now that moved fridge, it takes up space in that area. Don't know how to complete look and fit the round glass table n chairs. Respond to one, two or all issues, please.

Height issue: You can add tall crown molding, perhaps a combination of dental and traditional. I would recommend getting a compound mitre saw for the job. If the area is very tall you can add plywood above and then the molding. Make sure to match the type of cabinet wood to appear not like an add on.
Spacing issue: can you post a photo? I’m having difficulty picturing your set up. Perhaps relocating your fridge to a non traditional area.
Photos would help. You can add crown molding to the top of cabinets to make them look taller.
you can add railings or wood trim pieces on the top to have them appear taller

Do you want ideas on what you can do to make your upper cabinets look or seem larger than they are, or are you wanting increased real space that you can actually use for storage.?
Please post pictures of you kitchen so that we can see what you have to work with.
We have crown molding on the top of all of our cabinets and I love the finished look and it adds height. You could also add some decor items to the top to add height.
Hi! If you're hoping for additional space above the cabinet s, you could build a simple box that extends to the ceiling and have open shelving. Good luck!
Hi Jadonnia,
Make small cabinets that will fit the space and secure them to the wall above the other cabinets.
I have glass doors on a few of my kitchen cabinets with lights inside. It's only visual, but that makes them look much taller in combination with a very pronounced moulding. Or you could add this kind of cabinet above your others. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/sektion-wall-cab-horiz-gls-door-w-push-open-white-bodbyn-off-white-s59394726/
Also, we didn't really have room for a traditional island. So we used and old table and made one for our space. Wonder if you could fit something like that in the room? Even if it has wheels and rolls away against a wall or under a counter when not needed.
Will tall crown molding over the kitchen cabinets work?

What if you put a floating counter on the wall and put bar stools underneath it
We built wine storage at the top of our cabinets to extend them to the ceiling. We need a step stool to get the wine but they look pretty!
Have you found a solution yet? If you could post photos, it would be a big help.
Matching storage boxes on top.
