Try warming it with a blow dryer. It will soften the adhesive and then it should wipe off without damaging the book.

I agree that Ann's advice about using a blow dryer works great. No blow dryer, use your iron to heat the adhesive label just enough to remove.
I use either Goo Gone or WD40. Don't have a blow dryer. Don't use nail polish remover. It can remove the ink off some jackets.
wd 40 it is amazing stuff
You can use Vlvodka as an alternative. Just wet a paper towel you can also use a clean rag with some rubbing alcohol then simply rub the residue to lift it off. Accordingly, with regards to stickers which are really hard to remove, lay a rag soaked in an alcohol and place it on the area. Allow it to sit for few minutes in order to soften the residue. Use the rag to rub off what's left behind.
Hi! I heat the sticker with a hairdryer. Then I rub a tiny bit of baking powder into the residue which helps lift it. Good luck!
Hello, Try WD-40 Best of luck
