Easy Fabric Wall Decor
On a scale of 1-10 I definitely stand at a 10 when it comes to woven fabric wall hangings. They are a complete ode to the 70s and are a cool and unexpected way to add texture on a wall.
Making them can take H O U R S and I give credit to those Etsy shops who specialize in making them. Theyre also a little pricy when you buy them from a small shop and with my new homeowner budget... well let's just say I found a cheat that I cant wait to share!
After agonizing over what to do with an old table runner that just didnt fit my table space (or 2 young kids and a dog), I pulled together some supplies to create a knock off. Here's how!
Supplies:
-Table runner
-Wood rod
-Staple gun
-Scissors
I chose to do a layered look with my runner, but you can simplify by choosing not to. The create the layered hanhing I cut mu runner into 2 separate pieces, 1 long and 1 about 8 inches shorter.
Then I over layed my fabric onto the wood rod. The shorter piece on the bottom and the longer piece on the top.
Then I placed the rod at the top of the overlayed fabric and rolled it over to staple onto the wood.
You can add a cord to hang it and in no time you have an easy peasy fabric wall hanging.
What I'd do different:
·cut the pieces at not such differentiating heights (perhaps 4 inch difference).
·fold over the tops of the fabric, see them and slip the rod through the fabric.

I will try this without cutting. Just make it by folding the runner in 2 lengths, BASTE stitch across the top, allowing for the rod or dowel size and hang as directed. If you grow tired of it, rip out the stitches and clean and iron!🤗

Have a question about this project?
Why cut the runner? Can’t you simply drape it over the rod and staple it?
Since it is fabric, and like all things collect dust and grime, how do you wash?
