Cherry cabinets usually darken over time and white cabinets do yellow but the info I posted previously can help with ways to prevent that
Natural cherry will darken over time. Sunlight will bleach natural cherry. Properly sealed cherry won't darken or get bleached by sunlight. White cabinets don't really turn yellow but daily cooking, smoke, and smokers will leave a residue. White painted cabinets should be sealed to prevent them from turning yellow and easy to clean when they get dirty.
Hello, Cherry darkens with exposure to sun. If the furniture looks lighter from exposure to sunlight, it's probably because UV light has degraded the lacquer, in which case strip and refinish is the most likely answer. The other possibility is that it is not cherry, and some of the stain has faded
Yes they do, they usually darken over time. But it can be prevented.
Cherry will darken, sometimes unevenly because that is a characteristic of the wood as it is grown as a tree, cut and formed into cabinets and furniture. What effects it is the environment where it is placed, the UV light does have an impact on it and causes darkening.
White cabinets will yellow with conditions they are in, smoke, fumes from cooking, of course cigarettes. They can be sealed so they wont do this, making them easier to keep clean and white.
Cherry cabinets can change color from sunlight. White cabinets can yellow depending on how they were sealed. Polyurethane will yellow over time. The environment can also be a factor - cooking grease and smoke.
Hello,
All wood will loose/go darker colour with age. I have cherry cabinets myself (natural and not painted, and they will get sun damage. If your cabinets have a lot of sun on them or heat, they will discolour over time.
Mine are 30 years old and still look good. I do clean them once a year really well and I do not have a ton of sunlight in the kitchen.
I have a cherry desk & book case set that is from either late 80's or early 90's and it still looks the same color. No fading.
As for white, it will depend on what was used to seal it. If you have one you want to paint, use RustOleum enamel paint. It will have a durable finish, a bit shiny, that will never turn.
