DIY Marquee Letters

I was honored to be apart of Round 3 of the Cricut Challenge. My celebration that I chose was a wedding and I wanted a chic, yet city wedding. I chose to make these DIY Marquee Letters with my Cricut Explore but you can make them without an electronic cutter as well. Just cut them out of foamcore.
You're going to want to have an electronic cutter to make it easier but it's not needed. You can print off the letter and sized that is desired and make x's where you'd like the lights to be at. I wanted to have these be cut straight from my Cricut Explore, so I used chipbboard.
You'll next want to cut out a piece of 2 1/2"x12" pieces of additional strips of chipboard for the additional outer edges. I added grooves in mine that were 1/2" deep so that I could have easy folding and bending. You'll want to mark the places of your letters where there are creases and use either a scoring tool or boning tool to get a nice, firm fold in the cardstock so that it looks professional. I planned ahead and did not glue a good 10" before I would know I had a crease so that it gave me a chance to add the crease.

So did you use both chipboard and cardboard? Do you think I can be done with cricut maker and basswood or balsa wood??
