Pottery Barn Inspired Welcome Doormat!

An easy and extremely CHEAP way of having a PB style doormat on your porch!
You will need: a cheap plain doormat, masking tape, black marker pen, black paint (I used chalkboard paint as I had loads leftover from something else!) scissors, knife, cutting board and printed letters or image {See my blog for more info on font style etc}.
Start with your design printed on paper.
Cut out your letters using scissors for the curvy bits and the knife and cutting board for straight edges (unless you are amazing at going round curvy bits with a knife - unlike me!)
Mask off your border if you are having one!
Draw around your letters using the marker pen. See my actual blog posting for more info on this!
Fill in your letters or image with paint, CAREFULLY! I used a smaller brush for the letters than for the border. I deffo messed up a bit but luckily you can't tell as its an uneven surface anyway hehe ;-)
Use a kind of 'stippling' brush motion to really get the paint into the hair of the mat!
Once you have waited for it to dry (or not in my case as I was too excited to see the final result!) you can peel off the masking tape..
Finished!
