Ikea Hack - Billy Bookcase in Our Home Office

When we bought our 1928 bungalow, we were lucky to have an extra room on the first floor that could be our office. We were told by the realtor that the previous owner painted the room black and used it as a home theater. Even though he painted over that black before he put the house on the market, we still wanted to put our own touches to it. So, we eventually painted it a very soft green and started turning it into an office.
As part of the transformation, we decided to install Billy bookcases to use as shelves for our many books. To give us some hidden storage, we customized the shelves by putting doors on the bottom of each section.
Because of our wall of custom-looking shelves, we were able to eliminate this unsightly assortment of shelves and books.
To give the shelves an even more customized look and to suit our needs, we also purchased a kitchen cabinet at Lowe's with similar doors and made a window seat out of it.
Our office is not fancy, but with the addition of a love seat, desk, chair, and personalized items, it functions very well for our needs. To see more of our process, please visit our blog.
