Old Desk Chair Refurbished

I got this old desk chair from my sister for $5 and wanted to refurbish it for my two year old granddaughter.
This is the only before picture that I have of the chair. It was in pretty bad shape. My hubby taught me how to sand with an electric sander, which I had never done before. It was a lot easier then I thought it would be. So, I sanded it and filled in the cracks and sanded it again.
I used lavender and light pink chalk paint that I purchased at Walmart. Can you believe that Walmart sells chalk paint now for around $8? It's the FolkArt Home Decor chalk paint. Works for me!!
As you can see, on the arm of the desk, I simply used chalkbaord paint that I bought at Michael's. It was a 2 oz. bottle for $1.29 and I just followed the instructions and created a tic tac toe for the picture.

I also bought a burlap banner and stenciled each burlap piece with the letters of her name and made a garland and secured it to the chair. (I don't have a picture of the banner on the chair).
I hope to add more pictures with G sitting in the chair and enjoying it soon. Thanks for looking.

  • I love this! My youngest son had a similar one but it was prefab/new and I would have much rather he had a desk like this!

@Mary Beth This desk is very heavy and sturdy. That's what I like about the "old" furniture out there. Thanks for your comment.
