The Curious (and Unsolved) Case of the Incredible Exploding Toilet

Prior to a week away, Steve diligently completed his vacation checklist. This included but was not limited to: * Unplugging not needed electrical items, * Setting his Hot Water Heater to the appropriate vacation setting, * Overriding the programming on his heating/cooling thermostat. However, he could not have prepared for what he discovered when he returned home. ... He found a sheet of drywall lying on his bed, inches of water in his basement and rising. A toilet in a second story bathroom had well ... exploded... unleashing tankful after tankful of water into areas of the home down below. The end result ... 5 digit repairs. To this day, Steve doesn't know, and I am not really sure if I have explanation for it. I would love to hear *your* thoughts. Thanks. jb

Brenda Mersch on Aug 31, 2016Neighbor left bathroom window opened a very small crack...lightening slid right in and around the bathroom wall directly to the toilet tank. Similar damage in house as the story above. Lesson:. Close all windows completely before leaving home.
