Frameless oval mirror

Question

Mirror is oval shaped and frameless . I don't want to put a frame around it . There's a few chips around the sides and edges . Can I paint it ? What type of paint can I use . Acrylic? Craft? And do I need to seal it after painting . To be used in a bathroom

If you're going to paint it you'll need to use paint made for glass for good adhesion.

Hello. The glass craft paints that I have used needed to be baked on for proper adhesion.

I might suggest consider trying Rustoleum ultra Cover or Testors enamel paint. I’ve use the testors paints on glass ball Christmas ornaments and they have lasted decades ( 1980s).

I don't know why you would want to paint it. You can paint the back of it if you would like. You can paint it with an acrylic paint.

Hi Sharleen, you can definitely paint a mirror. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint sticks beautifully to mirrors. You would normally use wax as a topcoat over it but with a mirror that you likely won't be touching, you don't need to. (unless you clean it a lot). You can just paint it on using a small artist's brush and it will create an edge to your mirror.

Are you wanting to paint over the chips to cover them?

If so, the paint will still “telescope” the “divets” unless you fill them first.

I’m thinking of something like Bondo, as it can be sanded with a sanding block and then primed and painted.

I suggest a non-monolithic paint scheme- something to hide brush strokes. Textures, swirls, a pattern, etc.

I painted one with regular paint and as long as no one scratched it, it was fine. If you have chips in the mirror, fill them in first. You could also use a mirror paint if you want to just fix it or resilver it.

Hello there,

Stick it to a backboard. Colour the backboard. Add Corner embellishments and then Frame the whole thing. Or You could use it as a coffee table top. You can buy bendable trim that would maybe suit you better.

Hi, I had this problem with a round bevelled mirror and so I stuck fake diamonds around the edge. It's very bling but looks good where it is. I am looking to do my bathroom mirror soon, which also has this problem but am thinking of using mosaic tiles on that.
