Closet Redesign

I pulled out all of the wire shelves from our master closet and decided I would rather have a dedicated shoe rack, dressers, and some vertical shelves for pants and sweaters.

I cheated a little and started with some Ikea dressers and melamine boards. Got the job done and I love being able to go into the closet and come out fully dressed.

Saved lots of room in our bedroom too, no need to have dressers in there.

Small space behind the door was perfect for laundry baskets and shoes. His and Her sides too. No, I don't have near as many shoes as my wife... she has storage above for all the rest.

Opposite of the shoe rack is a hanger for long dresses and coats. Above that is a place for taller boots.

The dressers are 2 MALM 4-drawer chest in white. I put a longer counter across both of them. I love these because of the angled top of the shelf. No need for pull knobs! I didn't want anything to jab us in this small space.

I did add some cleats to the floor to hold them from moving and so I could screw into the dressers. I just pulled the bottom drawer out to make the connection.

Here you can see I added a very simple shelf system above the dressers. I simply screw through the outside of the melamine into the shelves, then butted the two together.

Simple shelves. I wish I had more room for hanging shirts... but that helps me not buy that many... makes me thin out the mix if I want to add more. It is a Win-Win!

On the other side I put a smaller dresser and a smaller shelf depth. I actually built a velvet board with hooks to go on all three sides of the bottom shelf. I will have to take a picture of that. Wife hangs all her jewelry there now.

Jan, I did that years ago too. I got tired of plastic, bought wood, took up too much space so bought the huggers and LOVE them. Especially tops with scoop necks they don't slide off. BUT I am so weird....I have all long sleeve on the bottom rack and short sleeve on the top. Also have them hanging by color. All white together, all blue together etc. That way if I want blue or yellow I just look in that section. Yes I know I have too many clothes!
