I found this French provincial chest of drawers listed on marketplace and I scooped it up quickly for $25 bucks. The hardest part in painting furniture for me is developing a color scheme.

This piece had great bones and just needed to be brought up to date.

Using chalk paints I had on hand after prepping my piece I primed then chalk painted the entire piece with a blue green base. This took three coats for full coverage.

Next I decided to paint horizontal stripes on the drawers. I used frog tape and different variations in space for the thickness of each stripe.

Once taped off I used several complimentary colors and went down the drawers creating a colorful striped piece.

I used two to three coats for each color allowing each coat to dry before applying another.

Once the paint was dry I removed the tape revealing the design.

This is a snapshot of the pattern as I’m removing the tape.

After the design was revealed I used a fine grit sand paper to smooth out the chalk paints before applying Wise Owl salve over the entire piece. I used a metallic gold spray paint on the hardware to complete the fresh new striped look.
