I love upcycling furniture and making something that looks like it should be chucked away look brand new. I got this table from a charity shop for just a few dollars. I used only chalk paint, gold leaf and furniture wax in this project.

I hope everyone likes this and are inspired to have ago at upcycling furniture them selves.

Before

This is how the side table looked before I did any work to it. You can see how dark and boring it was before.

Firstly, I got my rotary tool out to take off the thin layer of lacquer off so I've got an organic wood surface to work with. You could use a Dremel as there exactly the same.

You can see here I'm just taking the thinnest layer off to expose the wood.

I decided to use a chalk paint as it's my favourite type pf paint to work with as I love the matt finish it creates when dry. Pink was my colour of choice as I wanted to brighten the table up and make it stand it than before. I also wanted to decorate it pink to match my kitchen as I have a perfect place it's going.

I just used a flat paintbrush to apply to paint. I did 2 coats to get maximum coverage.

Next, I decided I wanted to add some gold details to really make this table look unique to anything I've seen before. I just used a small old make-up brush that I wasn't bothered on getting dirty.

Here you can see I applied gold in the grooves of the table feet and to make some parts of the table stand out.

I was stuck on what colour to make the rim and around the top of the table but asked for opinions on hometalk in a question and that really helped me to decide so thank you everyone for all your help.

My decision was to use gold leaf as I believe this would really enhance the worn leather on the table top and also match with the gold highlights of paint. Full instructions to how to use gold leaf is featured in my post. Upcycling Furniture Using Gold Leaf | Hometalk

Lastly to finish off I used this furniture wax I applied using a microfibre cloth and rubbed it all over. I did two layers of this and waited 15 minutes in between doing the last layer. Wax is really good as its not oily and gives a nice subtle shiny finish.

Make sure you go all over with the wax, even on the gold leaf to enhance the colour.

Finished

Here's my table complete. This was my first proper painted upcycle and I'm really pleased with it.
