Try mounting rain gutters on the wall at a height your child can reach

I love your stacking crates idea. But, I stained my own board for floating shelves in the bathroom and I totally love the outcome. Total cost for that was $8 since I got the board free at a church getting rid of a set. Floating shelves are sooo easy all you have to do is screw the L bars onto the studs and the boards and I guess you'd have to attach book ends to the board, though. What a great opportunity for DIY creativity.

This one is my favorite! Pure genius - rain gutters!

I used plastic milk crates for my kids when they were small. They are easy to stack as they get older. When they are big enough for bookshelves, the crates can be used for toys, sporting equipment or shoes.

The easiest way I know is to put up some outside gutters, perhaps in a corner and using two different heights to stand up books. Put a bean bag on the floor and you have a ready made reading area. This is inexpensive and simple to install. Good luck with this!

How wonderful to have a child keen on books at such an early age! Reading is a life-long skill, as is learning to care for and handle books correctly. This of course requires a designated accessible place where the books go at 'tidy up time'. Here are some more ideas for storage and reading nooks that are suitable for young children.

ou know those small shelving units that come with cloth "drawers"? I hung them on the wall horizontally at a height the kids could reach. I was able to use the top to display favorite toys. As they got older I just raised the height they hung on the wall. This photo isn't the best but it shows what I did.

Whatever you do, make sure it is bolted into the wall, especially if you use a dresser. The weight of the books may cause it to pull away and fall over, causing a potentially dangerous situation.
