Do you Remember those old 70's style Buffets? Don't get me wrong I love them cute and functional unfortunately not really in style anymore. I found this little Gem at a garage sale for 40$ and thought hey can make this pretty! Wanna know a funny secret this buffet was about a block down from my place and I don't have a truck... but I do have a really sweet little tykes wagon! so me being a little out of the box I took that puppy home in 2 trips drawers and glass first then the body, I'm pretty sure they thought I was nuts... oh well! I call this piece Ocean of gold.
This is an image of where I started to where I finished! look at that difference I feel it is subtle and elegant.
First thing I did was remove the glass and drawers.
The next step was to prep my piece for painting, I used soap and water and really cleaned it making sure to get all debris off.
Next came the base coat I used rust-olium paint in gold and applied it to the entire piece including the top and inside the cupboard and the drawers.
Next I painted the body and drawers in a chalk paint. Vintiques Irish Cream color.
Once paint had dried I sanded down and distressed the chalk to get that gold shining through.
Now for the Top this is kind of hard to explain I used Unicorn SpiT in White-ning. I applied in squiggly lines then rubbed it in C shape motions all down the top. once the SpiT was almost dry I went over it with my hand (while holding my 5 month old lol) in straight slapping motions (kind of like a hit drag and flick) this made this beautiful cloud or wave design.
Once it all dried I sealed in a Minwax Polyurethane and a wax, then reapplied the glass and hardware.

    1) why do you use both poly and wax? 2) is that the original hardware? If not, I'd love to know where you found it. Great choices all the way!
