How about if you fashion a hanging stained glass window the approximate dimensions of the TV. Your husband would not see it and you would not see the back of the TV, leaving the upper part open?

Hinged shutters that can be opened or shut, I'd use 4 like bifold doors 2 on each side opening/shutting towards middle. this way you guys can have them either way. maybe taking turns

using bi-fold doors and painting them to your desired color is one way to hide this and also you could use old distressed shutters - or use the hinged shutters that open and close and you can paint them or leave them natural - bamboo shades would also work

Use stick on fake beveled, fractured or stained glass. We have used on front doors with clear/beveled glass and transoms as we are very close to the road. They can see pretty reflected colors and we get the light.

looks like you have two openings into the kitchen so they will both have to be treated. Do you need the openings for light into the kitchen? Or can the enclosure be solid? Is the t.v. narrow enough to fit into the opening? If this were my home and I desired a background for the t.v. I would build a "box" on the right, just the size of the t.v. and leave the top open. On the left I would build book shelves to match the height of the t.v. box and leave that top open.

Hi ! Shutters would work . Also hang a curtain on a tension rod.

with both you have the option to leave them open or closed .
