I found the perfect combination for Summer Hanging Baskets and Glider Swings...The Magical Hanging Flower Basket Awning!

Looks Beautiful...almost HGTV Camera-Ready...Solves the Need-for-Shade Glider...and provides a Magical Spot for Hanging Flower Baskets!

The Hanging Flower Basket Awning - Made in a Flash!

Let's Go!

Here's the still perfectly good Glider Swing...Minus an Awning. A way too hot spot for patio relaxing.

Materials for a Hanging Flower Basket Glider Awning:

1 Large Pool Noodle (54 inch length)

3 - 12 inch Hanging Flower Baskets

The 12 inch hanging flower basket dimensions:

Basket has a 12 inch diameter and is 7 inches tall.

27 inches from basket bottom to hook top. In plastic.

Pool Noodle is 54 inch long.

Pool Noodle...Amazon LINK.

Step 1: Cut the Noodle down the center so that it fits snuggly over the Top Glider bar.

Step 2: Then cut the Noodle into 4 pieces...at the mid-point of the Noodle (27 inches)...

...and at each end (10 inches long).

After cutting, you will have 4 Noodle pieces.

This will create space for 3 hanging flower baskets.

Step 3: Place the 4 Noodle pieces on the Glider top rod.

Step 4: You're ready to place the flower baskets...my favorite part!

In between the Noodle sections, WRAP the Hanging Strands (1 time) carefully Over the Top Bar...

Secure the Strands in place with the Hanging Hook of the basket.

The Noodles will help to keep the flower basket in place.

Wrapping the plastic strands around the Top Glider bar shortens the hanging basket for more headroom on the glider.

Hooking the strands with the basket hook prevents the basket from moving along the Glider bar.

So pretty and with a bit of time, the flowers will fill out the basket and provide shade.

The Top Bar is positioned over the center of the glider seat (and directly over your lap)...therefore, there is sufficient clearance to sit comfortably without hitting your head on the bottom of the basket. The baskets hang high enough and do not obstruct your view.

What about the snakes that love the plants above your head? Little snakes love flowers too.

I feel I don’t understand why you need the pool noodle on top, a tie wrap would work to hold it in place, what do you do when you have to water them? Do you put towels down because I know my planters drip water. I am very curious what you do when watering, please write back. It’s a cute idea like my grandkids would love pool noodles every where.

we transformed an old industrial rolling wardrobe rack into a hanging basket rack - but the pool noodles will help keep each in it's space, especially if we need to roll the rack to a new spot! Thanks! I think I will tone down the bright blue noodle- I am hoping acrylic paint or Rustoleum's plastic paint lets me make them unobtrusive green, like the rack color!
