DIY Coat Hooks + Shelf

I whipped up this cute little entryway coat hook and shelf and not only has it made my entryway a lot neater, it is looks adorable! If you love this project, you can find more DIY home decor and renovation ideas on my blog, Love & Renovations.

Your first step is to measure the length you want your coat hook and shelf to be, and cut all of your wood down to that size.

You'll need:

1 length of the 1X8 board

1 length of the 1X3 board

2 lengths of the 1X2 board

You'll attach the shelf first - grab your 1X3 board and attach it to the 1X8 board about 1" from the top by drilling in screws from the back. Be sure to pre-drill holes so you don't split the wood! Then, take a 1X2 board and use wood glue + nails to attach it to the front of the shelf. It will look like the photo above when you're done.

Now, grab your second 1X2 board and attach it to the bottom of the 1X8 board using wood glue and nails.

Here's a look at what the shelf will look like once you've constructed it.

Now that the shelf has been constructed, you can stain or paint it.

Finally, attach your hooks to the space between the shelf and the trim piece and you're ready to hang it! I used a french cleat to hang mine on the wall, but you could also use some picture hangers if you prefer.
