How do I clean copper jello molds?
I love the look of copper and had some of my mothers old jello molds. I plan to hang them in the kitchen as wall art (not use them for food). A friend knew of my plan and picked some up at a yard sale for me, unfortunately, they are black inside and along the edges. How do I clean copper? I looked online and found the suggestion of a paste of salt and vinegar - it didn't work very well. I'm also considering just spray painting them a shiny copper finish but I'd like to restore them if possible.

Some molds were tin and copper clad.

There are proper copper cleaners on the market. If the salt and vinegar did not work, then the black has built up over time. Keep working at it and it should eventually come clean. I would not paint the copper.
Try covering the affected areas in tomato ketchup right out of the pantry or fridge. Let set in kitchen sink for about twenty minutes, then scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse with cold water.
The copper-clad pans (Revereware) has a commercial copper cleaner.
Donna, try Bar Keepers' Friend.

My mom had jello molds like that, but they were not truly copper. They only had a "copper" finish. If you want to use them solely for decoration, then a spray paint is probably your best bet.
