It will return as you have hard water deposits on our glasses. Wash them well by hand using liquid dishwashing detergent and lots of vinegar.

Could be your glasses have been damaged by the salt used to soften the water. I feel a new lot of glasses need to be purchased! I tend to wash my glasses with on duish soap in the bowl.

I use a product called "Finish". It helps the water spots not happen as it is used in the final rinse. Most dishwashers have a place to add it before you start the wash cycle.

Try soaking them in white vinegar over night then brush with toothpaste and a toothbrush, then rinse and dry. If that doesn't work use food colouring and Mod Podge and paint them and use for flowers or night lights or decor. I feel a hardwater tablet in the dishwasher each time might help.

  • Using a dish towel dipped in vinegar, gently massage the glass in a circular pattern. The milky look of the film is caused by mineral deposits, which you can remove by following step two if the film starts to lift from the glass. If the glass doesn't clear up, etching is probably the problem and it can't be resolved.

If your dishwasher has etched the glasses there is not much you can do. You can try to set cloudy glasses, tumblers or drinking glasses on their sides in the sink or large dishpan. Fill the sink or dishpan with enough vinegar to completely coat each glass and leave them to soak fully immersed for 15 minutes.

Make sure you use a good rinse agent in the dishwasher, this will help keep the glass free of film.
