Does cleaning with TSP damage stain and paint?

I'm deciding what to do with my oak cabinets but u til I commit, they just need a good cleaning - previous owners never touched them. Can I use TSE or will that ruin the current finish?

Becky what a chore. To use non damaging or toxic chemicals can you try Dawn dishwashing soap? It’s a great grease cutter.
Also, a bit of vinegar added can help if it alone doesn’t cut through enough.
Are the caninets finished?
Just wipe and rinse and that should help. Lots of clean hot water with help tremendously.

The TSP will dull the finish.
Hi Becky. I'm Cindy. Make a bucket of warm water. Add a quarter-cup of vinegar and a couple squirts of Dawn dish soap. This mix will cut through grease and grime. After the cabinets are dry, go over them again with Murphy's Oil Soap (according to directions on the bottle). The soap will get them ultra clean and the oil will condition the wood. You can use the Murphy's Oil Soap as a maintenance cleaner. Good luck Becky and Happy Holidays.
Thank you, Cindy!
Good spray cleaner for the job from supermarket.
Dawn dishwashing liquid and vinegar will cut through the "gunk" on your cabinets that has built up over time. Be sure to rinse well with clear warm water and dry with a soft cloth, then you'll have a good starting point to either stain or paint your oak cabinets.
I always clean wood with Murphy's Oil Soap.
