DIY Dollar Store Valentine's Day Decor {Video}
I've never been a huge Valentine's Day fan. It's not that I think the day is silly or anything, it's just that, for me, it can't compete with other holidays, like Halloween and Christmas. However, because I've had a little bit more time on my hands lately, I decided this year was the perfect opportunity to show Valentine's Day a bit more love!
Not only did I make a super cool wreath for our front door, I also ended up decorating the entryway of our home. And because going all out for Valentine's Day isn't something I normally do, I knew I had to document and share the festive results with all of you.
This DIY is fairly straight forward, and is something you can even get the kiddos in on, if you want. All you have to do is cover your selection of toy dinosaurs with the paint colours of your choosing. And to make that step a bit easier and less time-consuming, apply some sort of primer beforehand.
If you happen to have a can of white primer spray paint within arms reach, awesome. If not, you can always apply a coat or two of white acrylic. Either way, adding some sort of base to your dinosaurs will mean your colourful top coat will not only look better, but you'll also be able to get away with applying fewer layers of it.
Once the paint has dried and you're happy with the way your dinosaurs look, it's time to get glitzy! Simply use a small paint brush to apply a thin layer of school glue to the areas you want to embellish. Before the adhesive dries, cover it with the glitter of your choosing.
When you're finished, set the pieces aside and allow them to dry a second time.
If you want, you can also add a fake succulent to your dinos. Since I had one large dinosaur and three smaller ones, I decided to turn the big guy into a pretty "planter" by hot gluing a plastic succulent to his back!
I then proceeded to deck out the sideboard in our entryway with all of the Valentine's Day-inspired decor I could get my hands on.
Along with the dinosaurs, the candle holders, the fabric hearts, and the festive garland are all dollar store purchases. Everything else came from other areas of our house!
Tip: Shopping your own home for accessories is the easiest way to save money when decorating for any type of special occasion or event.
