No Sew Sock Easter Bunny

Keeping with the theme of making a bigger fuss of usually minimal holidays, I decided to get crafty with an odd sock today! This project is really quite versatile. It can be used as an Easter ornament or given as a gift. You can make bigger ones and smaller ones, different colours, etc.

Here are the things you'll need for this project. Rice, scissors, elastic bands, a sock, a tall glass, a black marker pen and some ribbon.

First you need to put the sock over a tall glass as shown. This step isn't essential but it sure does make it easier to fill with rice. Bit of a clue for step 2!

You guessed right! Next fill your sock to the top of the glass with rice. I used a dessert spoon as the neck of my rice container is too big to pour.

Once you've removed the sock from the glass you should have something that looks like this. You'll obviously need more rice if you're using a large sock.

Secure the sock at the top of the rice with an elastic band.

Next add another elastic band to create the separation between the bunny's body and head. This should be about 1/3 from the top.

Now you need to cut off excess sock at the top, leaving as much as you need for ears. If you choose to have floppy down ears, leave a little more than I have here.

Cut the ear section in half as shown to separate into 2 ears.

You should now have something that looks like this. Now you need to cut a more ear like shape into the material.

All I did to create the ear shape was bring the tips of the ears to a point. Now your bunny should look like this when stood. Unless you've opted for floppy ears in which case he/she will look a little different of course.

Now the face. Super easy! Just 2 dots for eyes and an x for a mouth.

Simple but so effective :-)

Last step now! Cut a piece of your ribbon long enough to go around bunny's neck and make a bow. Tie in a knot, then a bow.

There you have it. A super simple, super cute Easter ornament/gift simply using an old odd sock and some rice! I don't know about you but I think they're so cute I might just go and make a family of them!
