This sign is my new favorite farmhouse wood sign for winter decor! Here's how you can make your own sign from scratch! And you don't need any fancy tools!Seriously. I bet you have most of these supplies already around your home! Grab your FREE template for this sign and get more details on this DIY wood sign here!
I started out with a piece of 48" x 24" plywood and (2) 1" x 2" furring strips. I painted the plywood with white primer and then chalk paint. I prefer chalk paint for this for the matte finish - which helps with "painting" the design on.Then I cut the furring strips down to size and stained them. Get exact measurements that I used on my blog post!TIP: If you don't have a saw, have the workers at Home Depot cut the wood for you!
I designed the template, and I'm so excited to share this exact design with you!! Just visit my blog here to grab your free template! (click on the link at the beginning or end of this post!)Print out the template and put it together with some tape. The little lines will help you line everything up correctly.
Here is the template all taped together. It's a mirrored image so you can lay the image face down on the painted plywood.Transfer the image by rubbing the image onto the paint, or by using graphite paper. (more details on my blog!)
Then color in the design with a sharpie or sharpie paint pen. I love using a sharpie because it makes it so easy to color in the design, especially if you aren't very good with paint and paint brushes!
Here is a close up of the sign painted with a sharpie paint pen!
After the sign was painted, I nailed the frame onto the plywood with my brad nailer. I'm sure you could use glue and clamps if you don't have a brad nailer though! There you go! Grab your free template to make your own sign here!I'll have this sign up for as long as I possibly can get away with. I think it would be super cute for cabin decor too!!
