Easy Christmas Tree Skirt From a Repurposed Tablecloth
Every Christmas tree needs a pretty skirt to cover the stand holding it up. Plus each year's requisite Christmas tree photo looks so much nicer when there's a skirt under the gifts!
I made a really easy Christmas tree skirt from an old red tablecloth that I inherited from my grandmother. Besides the fact that it was quick and looks good, it reminds me of my grandmother every year when I take it out!
In addition to the tablecloth, you'll need a tape measure, fabric shears, pins, thread, and a washable fabric marker.
If you want to close up the sides of the skirt, you can add snaps to it.
Fold the tablecloth in half twice, so as to have four layers. Put a glass in the corner fold and trace around it. This is the center opening.
Measure how wide you want your skirt by holding the tape measure up to the base of your Christmas tree. Then measure that amount in an arc from the line traced around the glass, making marks all around.
Cut along the two traced arcs.
Fold the remaining fabric again in four layers (or use another fabric). Put the folded circle of fabric on top of it and cut around it so that you have two circles.
Put the two circles together, right sides facing, and cut a slit from the edge to the center.
Pin around all the edges and sew around, leaving an open space along one of the straight edges.
Turn the circles right side out, iron flat, then sew all around the edges again.
If you want your skirt to close, add snaps to the straight edges. However it is easier to simply overlap the edges when you wrap it around the base of the Christmas tree.
Now all that's left to do is to put lots of gifts under the tree!
